Ayeda Wyatt, c’14, attended Bishop O’Dowd and Howard University on scholarship. Wyatt graduated last year with a degree in chemical engineering. Upon her completion, Wyatt applied to a doctorate program and was admitted into a number of schools, including John Hopkins and Brown. She has now embarked on a new journey, attending Columbia in New York to pursue her doctorate in biotechnology. During her time at Howard, Wyatt was a member of the Karsh STEM program, Howard University’s premier scholarship program for high-achieving students of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics disciplines, offering full scholarships for undergraduate studies and support for successful matriculation through graduate and professional studies. Ayeda was also awarded the Vivien Thomas Scholars award, a scholar initiative that addressed the historical underrepresentation in STEM. This particular award provided funding for the Ph.D. program at John Hopkins. Even though Ayeda choose to attend Columbia, it is great to see her get recognized and awarded for her continued hard work and dedication. The Ile Omode community is very proud of Ayeda Wyatt and wishes her continued success as she starts her Ph.D. program at Columbia.
