About Us
Founded in 1986 by members of Wo'se Community Church, Ile Omode — meaning “House of the Children” in Yoruba — is dedicated to the call to be keepers of the legacy.

In 1986, Wo'se Community Church members established an independent, African-centered educational institution in Oakland to address cultural and spiritual needs in education. The school began at a private residence before moving to 8924 Holly Street in 1988.

To maintain the educational traditions of our ancestors, nurture the innate potential in each student, and create an environment where educators can teach with passion grounded in African values.

Sponsored by Wo'se Community Church, we are a founding member of Oakland-based Independent Black Schools and recognized by the State of California.
