The Ile Omode staff worked diligently this past summer to create the spiritual curriculum units. This entailed four weeks of zoom meetings discussing what we (ile Omode) wanted the unit topics to be. As a result, four topics came from the Kemet era, Maat being one of the subjects. Mama Rachel, Marcus Garvey's class instructor, stated the purpose of the Maat lesson was to introduce the concept of Maat and teach students about the virtues and how to use them in their everyday lives. These virtues are Truth, Justice, Harmony, and Order. The class participated in five different art activities including, creating headpieces, portraits of Maat, wings/feathers to symbolize your heart being as light as a feather, and practicing the Maat pose, which is how she’s represented in most of her images. unnamed-10.jpg unnamed-11.jpg unnamed-13.jpg
