A select group of middle school students toured Hello Robotics' facility in Martinez, California to better understand how robotic units are designed, manufactured and tested. The idea for the trip actually began in Atlanta, Georgia, during the middle schoolers' college tour in April, 2023. On a campus tour at Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) the students stumbled into a tech conference where they met representatives from Hello Robot. Hello Robot's engineers were so impressed with Ile Omode students' inquiries and enthusiasm, that they offered to connect with the school. That chance encounter led to a visit to their facility. Students had a chance to meet with engineers at the company and the company's founder and CEO, Aaron Edsinger. Edsinger developed four companies, and two were purchased by Google, where he later served as Google's robotics director. Students learned about the use of 3D printing in the development of parts for the robotic devices. Engineers showed the circuitry and software coding required to bring the robotics to "life". Doing so, allowed students to learn about various engineering jobs, such as electrical engineering, industrial engineering, computer science, and 3D modeling. Since the visit, Hello Robot, has been working to create a partnership with Ile Omode. Through the partnership, students will be able to tour their facility annually, and as the opportunity arrises, Hello Robot will offer Ile Omode students internship and shadowing visits. The partnership should prove fruitful for Ile Omode students, both current and alums in high school and college.
