In a significant development for Chabot College in Hayward, Jamal Cooks, a seasoned educator and leader with over two decades of experience, has been appointed as the institution’s new president. Hailing from Oakland, Cooks brings a wealth of teaching, research, and leadership expertise to his role.
Growing up as an only child in Oakland, Cooks learned early on about the importance of community. His journey, marked by a commitment to keeping education at the forefront and staying true to his morals and values, has now led him to the prestigious position of president at Chabot College.
When asked about his feelings on assuming the role, Cooks expressed enthusiasm, stating, “It feels good to be in a position to impact change.” Despite being new to Chabot College, Cooks emphasizes that he is no stranger to leadership and hard work within his community.
