Each year during the fall, Ile Omode organizes tours for the 8th grade students. This year, the students toured Saint Joseph Notre Dame High School in Alameda, Saint Mary's College High School in Berkeley, Bishop O'Dowd High School in Oakland, and the girls visited Holy Names High School, an all-girls school in Oakland. Additionally, they were honored with a presentation at Ile Omode from Cristo Rey De La Salle East Bay High School. This one was especially special because the co-presenter was Anya Evans, an Ile Omode alum (c'23). This isn't unusual, as alums are attending each of these schools, and 8th graders are able to get a fuller view of the school from the alums' perspective. Riley, an 8th grader who has several high schools on her list, particularly enjoyed the tour at St. Mary's, she found the tour guide to be "really nice" and "honest about the school" and what it had to offer. Riley has also taken tours on her own, including to Salesian College Preparatory in Richmond, and Carondelet High School, an all-girls high school in Concord. Each year, St. Joseph's has extended themselves, and sends their bus to escort Ile Omode students to their campus. Not surprisingly, a number of students greatly enjoyed the tour, including Marcellus. After the tour, St. Joseph quickly rose up on his list, and he says it's, "one of my top schools I'm considering". Without a doubt Bishop O'Dowd has the highest number of alums in attendance, and their tour almost feels like a reunion for students. From freshman to seniors, most of the Ile Omode alums either participated formally in the tours or just dropped in to say "hi" and spend some time with their former classmates. Generally, the tours are arranged before the school year begins, and are scheduled in October and November, as students and families are evaluating high schools and determining which schools they'll apply to. Annually, Ile Omode students apply to an average of 3 high private schools each, and the school maintains a 100% private high school acceptance rate.
