Baba Monte grew up in Oakland, California. Most of his elementary education was in private school, including attending high school at Saint Mary’s College High School in Berkeley, before graduating from Morehouse College. It was at Morehouse that he became interested in mentoring youth.
His passion for working with youth grew and took greater focus as he stepped into education. He started substitute teaching in the Oakland Unified School District. In his role as a teacher he began to develop creative approaches to teaching language, and in the process gained experience working with students from preschool to high school.
He also has a master’s degree in urban education, and along with education, Baba Monte has experience with construction and installations. Ultimately, he’d like to see more students exposed to growing more of their own resources.
