New Staff Ready to Go
 Thursday, September 15, 2016
Ile Omode is proud to welcome four new faces to our staff.
After many years of very dedicated service, Baba Adafo will not be with us anymore, although you are absolutely sure to see him visiting frequently. He was a rock at the school and provided great support for Mama Rose in the kitchen and served as our building "czar". He will be replaced by Baba Curtis, who worked last year in the kitchen on Mondays, and will now work alongside Mama Rose fulltime.
We're expanding support in the classroom and during afterschool by hiring a teaching assistant, Alana Carroll. Sis Alana is a Howard alum, graduating in 2015 with a degree in psychology and a minor in community development. She has family at Ile Omode, and so she should feel at home very quickly, but give the Sacramento native a big hug anyway.
Baba Fancy Bryant recently retired from Intel after nearly 20 years of service. Instead of hitting the links or sailing in the Caribbean, he has accepted an Encore/Intel fellowship and will provide IT support for the year. He has previously volunteered at the school on a number of occasions over the last decade, and his services are greatly needed. He is a father of two adult children, one of whom attended Ile Omode in the early 1990s.
Mama Rachael, last year's kindergarten teacher, has decided to spend the year devoting more time to her family, and while we'll miss her presence, we are overjoyed to have Baba Ambessa Cantave assume leadership in the Marcus Garvey classroom. Baba Ambessa is the baba of 6th grader, Aissaade, and previously worked in our preschool years ago. He brings dynamic energy and a intense passion for education.
