Malik Presents at Academy of Sciences
 Monday, October 8, 2018
Malik Bossett (c'15) was selected to speak at the California Academy of Sciences 10 year building dedication, and was the featured youth speaker. The event marked the CAS's 10th year in their new museum in Golden Gate Park. In his speech he credited Ile Omode, where he attended from preschool to 8th, with making him "very proud of my African American heritage".
Malik has interned at the California Academy of Science for over 2 years, and he was one of the youngest paid interns. In his role he has responsibility for providing workshops and staffing exhibit stations at the museum. Last year he was appointed a mentor at the Planetarium Programs at CAS, and in this role he leads activities, including serving as an interstellar travel agent on the museum’s Teen Science Night.
His father, Dr. Charles Bossett, introduced Malik to Dr. Gibor Basri, a professor of astrophysics at UC Berkeley, and it was through meeting him that Malik realized a career in the field was possible. Dr. Basri now serves as Malik's mentor.
The 2015 Ile Omode graduate attends the Bay School of San Francisco, where he is a senior. He is involved in the school's astrology club, and they take monthly trips to Yosemite to observe and take pictures of celestial bodies.
Malik is presently applying to college, where he will study astrophysics because he's, "always understood that we are connected to the universe more than we think, and I've always wanted to know more".
